The Bear's first semester at the Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design in Prague was inspired by one of my classmates. He kept drawing lots of hedgehogs everywhere, which is why he was also called "The Hedgehog Boy". Before I embarked on this series, I had a picture of a bear studying with a hedgehog in mind. In fact, that is how the bear character ended up representing me.

Wei Chen Ting likes UMPRUM. He especially appreciates that he can study among other artists. Although sometimes it's a little stressful for him too, he finds himself moving and developing very fast, to his delight. He very much enjoys the historic atmosphere of the school building itself, although it is currently undergoing renovations. Studying at UMPRUM is different from what he is used to in Taiwan. UMPRUM gives more freedom, there is room for experimentation and discussion with teachers. In contrast, in Taiwan there is a deeper pedagogical approach, teachers usually teach and explain the process of creation step by step. Wei Chen Ting sees UMPRUM as a completely new experience.

Wei Chen Ting (* 1991) from Taipei, Taiwan specializes in illustration, graphic design, and comics. He is currently pursuing a master's degree at the Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design in the Studio of Illustration and Graphics in the Visual Arts program. He is a humorist and most of his artworks are presented in comic form.
